The Maiden Flight

On June 16, 2024, Cambodia Angkor Air’s flight K6-101 took off from Phnom Penh

International Airport, heading towards Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The aircraft, proudly displaying the national flags of both countries, carried the hopes and

dreams of travelers, businesspeople, and cultural enthusiasts alike. Cambodia’s national carrier now operates this service four times a week, enhancing travel opportunities and promoting Cambodia’s rich spiritual heritage. Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun and Indian Ambassador to Cambodia Devyani Khobragade have officially launched direct flights between Cambodia and India.

Why This Matters

Boosting Tourism: This direct flight is a game-changer. Indian tourists can now explore

Cambodia’s ancient temples, lush landscapes, and vibrant markets without the hassle of

layovers. Likewise, Cambodians can immerse themselves in India’s rich history, spirituality, and diverse cuisine with ease.

Enhancing Medical and Religious Tourism: India has long been a sought-after destination for

Cambodians seeking affordable medical treatment. With the new direct flights, this trend is likely to grow. Moreover, Buddhist pilgrims can now more easily visit Bodh Gaya, where

Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment.

Fostering Cultural Exchange: This flight is about more than just convenience; it's about building cultural bridges. From Bollywood movies to Khmer dance performances, travelers will bring home pieces of each other's heritage, enriching both nations.
