The UK's involvement in the India Mobile Congress 2024, held in New Delhi from October 15-18, highlighted the importance of the "Technology Security Initiative." This strategic agreement aims to deepen collaboration between the UK and India in critical technology sectors, particularly in telecommunications, telecom security, and emerging technologies.
As part of the Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP), Innovate UK, the UK’s Innovation Agency and part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) led a delegation of some of the UK's foremost innovators in future telecoms. These companies are focused on developing smart solutions that lie at the core of their value propositions. The delegation provided a valuable platform for engagement with key industry stakeholders, allowing participants to network with professionals from across the globe and initiate forward-thinking collaborations.
A significant milestone was achieved at the India Mobile Congress with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bharat 6G Alliance and the UK-India Future Networks Initiative (UKI-FNI), supported by the UK Telecoms Innovation Network (UKTIN). This collaboration is set to foster knowledge exchange and create new partnerships, enabling stakeholders to shape the architectures and systems essential for future telecom networks.
The roundtable discussions during the Congress received welcoming remarks from senior officials from both the UK Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT) and India’s Department of Telecoms (DoT). The event attracted a diverse array of participants, including representatives from major telecommunications companies such as BT Group, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Tata Communications, as well as esteemed academic institutions like IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras, and the University of Cambridge. Government officials from both nations participated actively, further reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the event.
The UK-India Future Telecoms Roundtable represented a crucial step in strengthening the partnership between the two nations. By focusing on innovative solutions and sustainable growth within the telecommunications sector, this collaboration promises to pave the way for advancements that can significantly impact both countries' technology landscapes.
Overall, the engagement at the India Mobile Congress not only underscores the strategic alignment between the UK and India in technology security but also lays the groundwork for future initiatives that can drive innovation and enhance global competitiveness in telecommunications.
