Strengthening Maritime Partnerships: INS Sunayna's Visit to Port Louis, Mauritius



INS Sunayna, deployed for an extensive mission in the South West Indian Ocean Region, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius on June 20, 2024, marking a significant milestone in its operational journey. The journey to the harbor was punctuated by joint maritime surveillance activities conducted in collaboration with Mauritius Coast Guard's Ship Barracuda and MPF Dornier, aimed at bolstering cooperative security measures within the Mauritian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).


The vessel was warmly welcomed upon arrival by MCG Dornier and the Mauritius Police Force Band, setting the stage for a three-day visit filled with a diverse range of engagements. These included professional dialogues, community-oriented initiatives like medical camps, and spirited sports events, all designed to strengthen ties and mutual understanding between the naval forces of India and Mauritius.



A highlight of the visit was the joint Yoga session held aboard INS Sunayna to celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2024. This special event, conducted in partnership with MNCG Barracuda, brought together over 200 participants, comprising Indian Navy personnel, members of the Mauritius National Coast Guard, and guests from the Indian diaspora and High Commission of India. Beyond promoting physical well-being, the session fostered a sense of harmony and camaraderie among the diverse participants, reflecting the shared cultural values between the two nations.


On June 22, 2024, INS Sunayna extended an open invitation to the public, allowing visitors a rare glimpse into the operations and capabilities of the naval vessel. This gesture not only enhanced public awareness but also underscored India's commitment to transparency and cooperation in maritime security matters with Mauritius.


The visit of INS Sunayna to Port Louis underscored its role as a key player in regional maritime security cooperation, contributing significantly to the bilateral relationship between India and Mauritius. By engaging in joint exercises, cultural exchanges, and community outreach activities, the deployment served to reinforce mutual trust and solidarity, laying a robust foundation for future collaborations in the maritime domain and beyond.
