Leaders' at Swearing-in Highlights India's Strong Cooperation with Indian Ocean Region.


On June 9, 2024, swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi and his Council of Ministers took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Dignitaries from neighboring countries and the Indian Ocean region graced the occasion as esteemed guests.


Among the attendees were notable figures such as Sri Lanka's President, Ranil Wickremesinghe; Maldives' President, Mohamed Muizzu; Seychelles' Vice-President, Ahmed Afif; Bangladesh's Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina; Mauritius' Prime Minister, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth accompanied by his spouse; Nepal's Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’; and Bhutan's Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay. Ministers from Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan accompanied their respective leaders.


Following the swearing-in ceremony, PM Modi held meetings with the visiting dignitaries at Rashtrapati Bhavan. They extended their congratulations to him for assuming office as Prime Minister of India for an unprecedented third consecutive term. PM Modi expressed gratitude for their presence and reiterated India's commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and 'SAGAR Vision'. He emphasized India's dedication to fostering peace, progress, and prosperity in the region, alongside its goal of achieving a developed India by 2047. He highlighted the importance of enhancing people-to-people ties and connectivity in the region and pledged to amplify the voice of the Global South on the world stage.



The leaders also attended a banquet hosted by President Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. In her welcoming address, the President congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his new term and emphasized that India's democratic exercise was not only a source of pride for its citizens but also an inspiration for people worldwide.


The presence of leaders from India's neighboring countries and the Indian Ocean region at the historic swearing-in ceremony underscores India's enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation with the region.
