India-UAE Strengthen Defense Cooperation with Inaugural ‘DESERT CYCLONE’ Military Exercise

45 Personnel from the UAE and Indian Armed Forces Join Forces in a Joint Exercise to Improve Interoperability and Cooperation in Sub-conventional Operations



The bilateral defense cooperation between India and the UAE has been progressively advancing alongside other facets of the bilateral relationship. Throughout the years, there have been frequent high-level exchanges involving Service Chiefs, functional-level exchanges, and educational exchanges in military matters between the two nations. Additionally, naval vessels from both countries have routinely visited ports as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation.


1st edition of the India – UAE joint military exercise ‘DESERT CYCLONE’ signifies further strengthening of bonds of friendship and trust between the two countries. The Exercise aims to achieve shared security objectives and foster bilateral relations between two friendly nations.



45 personnel each from UAE Land Forces from the Zayed First Brigade and  Indian Army from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment is participating in the Joint Military Exercise ‘DESERT CYCLONE’ at Rajasthan from 2nd to 15th January 2024. 


The objective of the Exercise is to enhance interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations including Fighting in the Built-Up Area (FIBUA) in desert/semi-desert terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations. The Exercise will enhance cooperation and interoperability between both sides during Peacekeeping Operations. 


The exercises conducted during the 'DESERT CYCLONE' include setting up a Joint Surveillance Centre, conducting Cordon and Search Operations, mastering Built-Up Area control, and executing Heliborne Operations. This exercise aims to enhance collaborative partnerships and facilitate the exchange of best practices between the two countries.
