India and Singapore Strengthen Ties at 18th Foreign Office Consultations

India and Singapore held the 18th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in Singapore. The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, India, and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore. These discussions focused on reviewing bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.



Key Discussions

India and Singapore reaffirmed their strong partnership and reviewed the progress of their cooperation in areas such as trade, defence, and digital innovation. Both sides also discussed regional and global developments of mutual interest.


Economic and Trade Cooperation

The two countries highlighted their strong economic ties, built upon the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA). They discussed ways to enhance trade, investment, and financial technology collaborations, focusing on digital connectivity and emerging technologies.


Defense and Security Partnership

India and Singapore emphasized their growing defence cooperation, which includes joint military exercises and training programs. They reiterated their commitment to strengthening regional security and maritime cooperation, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.


Collaboration in Science, Technology, and Innovation

The discussions also covered cooperation in science and technology, including partnerships in artificial intelligence, smart cities, and fintech. Both sides agreed to explore further collaboration in innovation-driven sectors.


Regional and Global Cooperation

India and Singapore exchanged views on regional and global developments, including their engagement in ASEAN, the Indo-Pacific, and multilateral forums such as the UN and G20. They reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, and rules-based international order.
