Hungary Brings Healthcare Innovation to the Forefront at India Health 2024

The inaugural India Health 2024, held at the IICC Dwarka Convention Center in New Delhi, spotlighted Hungary as the partner country, showcasing its cutting-edge contributions to global healthcare.


Key Highlights of Hungary’s Showcase

  • Strong Hungarian Presence: Four pioneering Hungarian companies, experts in diagnostics, oncotherapy, nuclear medicine, and incubator manufacturing, displayed their innovations at the Hungarian National Booth. The mix included companies with established market presence in India and those looking to expand their reach.

  • Richter Themis Medicare Pvt. Ltd: A joint venture between Hungary's leading pharmaceutical company, Gedeon Richter, and its Indian partner, Themis, underscored Hungary's significant footprint in India.


Inaugural Addresses

  • HE Ambassador István Szabó: Emphasized Hungary’s rich tradition in medical innovation, highlighting Nobel laureates like Albert Szent-Györgyi and Katalin Karikó. He noted Hungary’s health sector's export orientation, with 80-90% of production destined for global markets, and its status as a top medical and pharmaceutical exporter.

  • Additional Speakers: Peter Hall of Informa Markets, Dr. Girdhar Gyani, President of the Healthcare Providers Association of India, and Siddartrha Bhattacharya, Secretary General of NATHEALTH Health Association, also delivered keynotes.



Hungary Panel: Navigating the Indian Healthcare Market

  • Panel Discussion: Led by Vivek Stiegell of Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Hungarian companies shared their experiences and strategies for entering and thriving in the Indian healthcare market.

   Gedeon Richter Ltd.: Mr. Péter Szabó detailed their operations in Gujarat, highlighting a plant employing 300 people and producing 17 products.

77 Electronics: Rajesh Maheshwari from Suyog Diagnostics shared their success as market leaders in specific diagnostic segments.

Oncotherm: Discussed their initial market penetration and future growth plans in India.

Medi-Radiopharma and Medicor: New market entrants presented their advanced healthcare solutions.


Historical and Cultural Context

  • Hungary's healthcare industry boasts over 100 years of innovation and manufacturing expertise, with significant contributions during both the pre- communist era and as the Soviet bloc's medical hub.



Additional Activities

  • National Booth Opening: Mr. Yogesh Mudras of Informa Markets India and Mr. Levente Kardos of the Hungarian Embassy welcomed Hungarian firms and local stakeholders. Mariann Erdő from the Liszt Institute announced a New Delhi premiere of a film on Ignác Semmelweis, a Hungarian pioneer of antiseptic procedures.

  • Business Roundtable: A session at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) headquarters included insights into the Indian healthcare ecosystem.

  •  Hospital Visit: The Hungarian delegation visited BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital to engage with leading Indian healthcare experts
