New Delhi, 17th October 2024.

A reception to celebrate the inauguration of Taiwan’s new office in Mumbai and the 113th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) was held on 16 October 2024. Baushuan Ger, head of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in India, and Director General Homer Chang of the new office were joined by guests to mark the occasion.

Foreign Minister Chia-Lung Lin of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) recorded a congratulatory video for the event, highlighting the remarkable progress in India-Taiwan relations in recent years. He noted that the opening of TECC in Mumbai at a key strategic hub in western India, not only reflects the success of Taiwan’s “New Southbound Policy” and India’s “Act East Policy”, but also represents the continued promise to enhance bilateral ties.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Mumbai is Taiwan’s third office in India, following the establishment of the TECC in New Delhi in 1995 and the TECC in Chennai in 2012. The new office will serve four major western Indian states—Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa—as well as the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

Speaking on the occasion Baushuan Ger mentioned, "The opening of the third Mission of Taiwan in India tonight will surely add momentum to this already very cordial relations between our two sides and will especially boost cooperation between Taiwan and Maharashtra and the neighboring states in west India in the years ahead". He emphasized, "India and Taiwan share common democratic values, and their relations have steadily advanced through growing collaborations and people-to-people exchanges in recent years. Looking ahead, the office will continue to promote bilateral economic, technological, educational, and cultural exchanges. "

Baushuan Ger concluded with a heartfelt message "Taiwan sees India a trusted friend and partner. We look forward to working closely with our Indian partners on developing or enhancing many of the industrial sectors mentioned by President Lai. Through this new office in Mumbai, we will together join hands to bring Taiwan-India cooperation to new heights" said Baushuan Ger in his closing remarks.
