The Closing Workshop of the AsFreeWATER project, an exemplary initiative under the Eureka Innowwide program was scheduled at the Embassy of Hungary on 22nd October.

The AsFreeWATER project, part of the EU-funded Eureka Innowwide program aimed at helping European SMEs enter the global market, highlights innovation and international teamwork. This collaboration involves Hungarian firm Puraset Ltd. and VMC Management Consulting Private Limited (Vision360) and focuses on tackling the critical issue of arsenic contamination in drinking water.

The AsFreeWATER project aims to provide a sustainable and cost-effective solution for rural and isolated regions, including educational and healthcare facilities. By employing the PuraWELL arsenic removal unit, this initiative demonstrates a transformative approach to water purification, integrating advanced technology into existing infrastructure with minimal investment.

The event provided a comprehensive overview of the project's results, featuring an analysis of Puraset’s advanced regenerable arsenic removal adsorbents. It highlights the significance of international collaboration and the remarkable synergy between Hungarian and Indian expertise. This initiative demonstrated the dedication to global sustainability and technological progress, under the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union.

On the sidelines of the event Sanchita Gairola and Ranjan Mishra, Directors at Vision360 Management Consulting explained:

The primary objective of this project is to address the dire challenge of arsenic contamination in groundwater, a silent yet pervasive threat to public health. Through the implementation of PuraWELL filtration technology, the initiative seeks to:

  • Mitigate arsenic contamination, ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water for vulnerable communities.

  • Demonstrate the efficacy of PuraWELL in real-world Indian settings, thus establishing its viability for deployment in other arsenic-affected regions.

  • Support the Indian government's initiatives, aligning with the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The workshop was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Istvan Szabo, the Ambassador of Hungary to India, who passionately emphasized the urgent need for innovative approaches to water management in light of growing environmental challenges. Bhushan Lamsoge, Senior Scientist and Head of Office at the Central Ground Water Authority, Ministry of Jal Shakti, shared invaluable insights on the crucial intersection of science and policy. Representing the Delegation of the EU to India, Thomas Roger McClenaghan and Mr. Shouvik Datta underscored the EU's commitment to sustainable development through innovation. Additionally, Csilla Isineri Kopornyik, Company Director at Puraset Ltd, alongside Sanchita Gairola and Ranjan Mishra, Directors at Vision360 Management Consulting, contributed their expertise, enriching the discussions and paving the way for impactful solutions.
