3rd India-Japan Education Conclave from IJBC Focus On North East India's Vibrant Student Community

September 4, 2024

The India-Japan Education Conclave, a key initiative on 28th September 2024 during Japan Month announced by the Embassy of Japan in India, is gearing up to be a highlight of the year. This year’s conclave will shine a spotlight on the energetic student community from India’s North East States, aiming to foster educational exchanges and collaborations between India and Japan. The event promises to be a dynamic platform for cultural, technological, and academic connections, reflecting the shared values of innovation, respect, and mutual growth between the two countries.

Organized by the Higher Education and Research Committee (HERC) of IJBC and supported by the Japan Foundation and the Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai, this event is set to be a key moment in deepening Indo-Japan relations.

Why the North East?

India’s North East States—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura—are renowned for their stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and linguistic diversity. Despite their significant potential, these states have often been overlooked in broader discussions about India’s educational and developmental priorities. The "India-Japan Education Conclave" aims to change this narrative by highlighting the unique strengths and opportunities of the North East within the context of Indo-Japan relations.

Siddharth Deshmukh, President of IJBC, remarked, “With a focused approach on the North East States, this conference is set to mark the beginning of a new era of cooperation and respect between our nations. It will inspire a new generation of students to become ambassadors of this enduring partnership.”

Objectives

  • Promote Educational Exchange: Encourage student exchanges, scholarships, and joint research projects between Japanese and North Eastern Indian institutions.

  • Cultural Integration: Foster cultural understanding through workshops, language courses, and events that celebrate the rich heritage of both regions.

  • Innovation and Technology Transfer: Support innovation and technology transfer in areas like sustainable agriculture, biotechnology, IT, and renewable energy, aligning with the North East’s development goals.

  • Networking and Career Opportunities: Provide a platform for students to connect with academics, industry leaders, and policymakers, opening up new avenues for career and research.
